February 6, 2016

PRATTVILLE (Ala.) – The Prattville High School Diamond Club hosted its annual banquet on Feb.5 featuring Auburn University head baseball coach Butch Thompson as keynote speaker.

Prattville head baseball coach Joseph Colvin opened the banquet by welcoming the players, family members and guests. County school officials were among the over 200 in attendance.

“I want to thank Autauga County School Superintendent Spence Agee for his support of the baseball program, and the Prattville school system as a whole.  I also thank Principal Richard Dennis and Athletic Director Chad Anderson for their leadership and support,” Colvin said.

Colvin welcomed first-year junior varsity baseball head coach Jared Bonvillain, and assistant coaches Cory Lee and Jordan Friday.

In his remarks, Thompson encouraged players as student athletes to take personal responsibility for their actions on and off the field.

“Always aim high, not low, in everything that you do, and encourage everyone around you to do the same.  Find your passion in life and remember that nothing can replace hard work in overcoming barriers and achieving your goals,” Thompson told the players.

Thompson was named Auburn’s head baseball coach on October 22, 2015.  Thompson spent three seasons as assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Auburn from 2006-08, and returned to the university as head baseball coach after seven seasons at Mississippi State as both associate head coach and pitching coach.

Widely regarded as one of the premier pitching coaches in the country, Thompson was named the 2014 Baseball America and American Baseball Coaches Association National Assistant Coach of the Year while at Mississippi State.

On behalf of the school’s baseball program, Colvin thanked Luckie Heating and Air Conditioning, Tropical Smoothie, and Future Prospects Baseball for sponsoring the banquet.

The Prattville Lions varsity and junior varsity baseball teams open the season on Feb. 15 with double headers against the Auburn High School Tigers.
