PHS Boys JV Soccer Closes Out the Season in Style

The PHS Boys JV soccer team completed a stellar 2017 campaign by beating the Benjamin Russell Wildcats 5-1 Thursday night at Stanley-Jensen Stadium in Prattville, Alabama.  This year’s scoring sensation, John Hollis, opened the scorer’s sheet when he dribbled 25 yards in space toward the Wildcat goal and ripped a shot past the diving keeper for a 1-0 lead.  Not to be outdone, 17 minutes later, Donovan Renn intercepted a Wildcat pass, deked the Wildcat goalie with some nice footwork and dribbled the ball into the net.  Renn scored 3 minutes later after his initial shot on goal hit the sidebar, deflected to Matthew Richey who cranked a shot from short range that bounced off a defender, and landed back at the feet of Renn who hammered the ball into the net. The Wildcats did not go away quietly and clawed a goal back off a nice line drive direct kick from 20 yards out.  Following the goal, defender Cole Hines made a run up the field and passed to Tyler Cruise who neatly slipped a pass to Tim Jackson who easily scored from in front of the Wildcat goal.  A mere minute later, Jackson found himself in front of the Wildcat goal again, all by himself.  Hollis delivered a nice pass to Jackson and his shot cleanly hit net.  At halftime, the Lions were in command of the action.

The second half had a lot of action, however, the Lions were unable to add to their scoring total.  Chris Loomis, Joshua Kim and Drew Arel combined with many others to control the action, however, the Wildcat defense bristled late in the game to prevent any additional harm.  The game ended with a final score of 5-1.  The JV Boys have concluded their regular season games.  A full season recap will follow after the awards banquet on May 8th.  Head Coach Taylor Jones and the players would like to thank their fans and supporters for an excellent season. Go Lions!!
