The PHS Freshman Boys soccer team scored two goals, one for themselves and one for their opponent as they tied the Stanhope Elmore Mustangs 1-1 Monday night at Foshee Henderson Field in Millbrook, Alabama. The game was closely contested and both teams created numerous scoring opportunities during the match. The Mustangs got on the scoreboard first when a Lions defender attempted to clear the ball away from his own goal. The ball, unfortunately, found the back of the Lions net. Undeterred by the bit of bad luck, the Lions continued to compete well.
Daniel Sigler raced with the ball toward goal just before halftime. He was brought down from behind in the Mustangs penalty box. Head Coach Barragan called upon Conner Harry to step to the spot and take the kick. Harry noticed the Mustang keeper cheating a bit to Harry’s right, so Harry whipped his kick into the lower left corner of the goal to level the score. The remainder of the game was physical with both teams fighting for an opportunity to net the decisive goal. The teams fell short this night and the game ended in a draw. The Freshman Lions continue to show improvement.
The Freshman Boys are back in action Thursday night when they travel to Montgomery, Alabama to take on Catholic High School JV.
