The PHS Lady Lions softball teams swept the Enterprise Wildcats Thursday night in Enterprise. The JV came from behind to defeat the Wildcats 4-1 while the Varsity won the regular season area title with a thrilling 8-5 victory.
The JV game was scoreless until the bottom of the third inning when the Wildcats scored a run to take the lead. Prattville answered in the top of the fourth inning scoring all 4 of their runs. The Lady Lions were led at the plate by Payton Walraven with 2 hits. Jordan Harlow and Kaelyn Campbell had a double and 2 RBI each to account for all of Prattville’s scoring. Campbell was effective on the mound as well as she pitched 5 innings allowing no earned runs while scattering 5 hits and striking out 5.
The JV record is now 17-3 on the season and they will conclude their season this weekend at the Helena Huskies Tournament in Helena.
The Varsity contest was a heart stopping back and forth affair until the Lady Lions broke a 5-5 tie in the seventh inning by plating 3 runs that proved to be the difference. Antinique Clay blasted 3 hits on the night with 3 RBI. Haley Atchison had 2 fence rattling doubles and 3 RBI. Keitt Trammell and Emma Hindi also added two hits to contribute to the hot Prattville bats. Hindi was very effective in the circle going 6 innings and allowing only 1 earned run and 2 hits with 4 strikeouts. Melissa Townsend notched the save by pitching a scoreless final inning.
The victory runs the Varsity record to 25-10 on the year and a perfect 6-0 in regular season area play. The Lady Lions are back in action Tuesday when they tangle with the Marbury Bulldogs at the PHS softball field. First pitch is scheduled for 4:30.
