Girls Varsity Softball · PHS Softball Headed to State

PHS Softball won the 7A South Central Regional tournament in Troy with impressive wins over Central Phenix City 7-0 and Auburn 8-3. The wins give the Lady Lions a berth in the State tournament next Thursday at Lagoon Park.

In the Central Phenix City game late Thursday night, the Lions scored runs in the first 4 innings to run away from the Red Devils. Emma Hindi stymied the Central bats as she executed another dominating performance in the circle. Hindi pitched 5 innings while striking out 7 Red Devil batters and allowing only 3 hits. The Lion bats were hot as they pounded out 11 hits. McKenzie Harlow, Melissa Townsend, and Kelby Hogan added two hits in the game while Keitt Trammell, Haley Atchison, Sam Hilyer, Grace Schooley and Hindi each added a hit. Harlow also added two RBI and scored 2 runs. The game was called after 5 innings because of a AHSAA curfew ruling. The game ended at 12:15AM Friday morning because of earlier tournament games running over their allotted time.

In the Auburn game later that Friday morning, the Lady Lions continued their hot hitting and jumped out to an early 2-0 first inning lead. It was a lead that they would never relinquish. The story of the game was Hogan. Hogan had a massive 6 RBI on a home run, triple and a perfectly executed squeeze bunt. Harlow and Townsend also contributed two hits while Antinique Clay, Trammell, Hindi and Hilyer each had a hit. Townsend was the pitching ace in this game and garnered the complete game victory. Townsend scattered 6 hits while striking out 6 over 7 innings.

Prattville’s record is now 33-13 on the year as they prepare for their first State tournament appearance in 6 years. The Lady Lions will open up with the Tuscaloosa County Wildcats Thursday at noon at Lagoon Park. The Lady Lions will also play a second game later that evening with game time dependent on the result of the first game. The tournament is a double elimination format. Please make plans to support the deserving Lady Lion players and coaches this Thursday in Montgomery.
