The PHS Boys JV Soccer team squared off against the Enterprise Wildcat JV team at Stanley Jensen Stadium Thursday night. The teams battled through most of the first half with little to show for it.  Tim Jackson gave the Lions the lead just before halftime when he collected a loose ball in front of the Wildcat goal and rifled a shot past the goalkeeper.  The Lions took the one goal advantage into the halftime break.

In the second half, the Wildcats came out on fire.  They scored two quick, successive goals within the first 15 minutes of the second half.  The Wildcats hung on to their lead and the Wildcat goalie turned aside several opportunities for the Lions to tie the score.  With time running low, the Lions began to throw numbers toward the Wildcat goal.  Chris Loomis started making several penetrating runs from his defensive position.  On a late run, Loomis collected a deflected ball and fired a shot past the Wildcat goalie into the net.  The score would stand as the Lions and Wildcats settled for a draw.

This was the second dramatic tie in three games.  Trent Thompson scored a dramatic goal against Hoover with 00:23 remaining in the game to tie the Bucs just prior to Spring Break.  Head Coach Taylor Jones will be looking for some improvement as the Lions host Pelham Monday night.  Game time is set for 7:30 p.m.

Boys Junior Varsity Soccer, Boys Varsity Soccer · PHS Boys Varsity Soccer Defeats #5 Enterprise

The PHS Boys Varsity Soccer team defeated the highly ranked Enterprise Wildcats 1-0 Thursday night at Stanley Jensen Stadium in Prattville, Alabama.  Head Coach Rob Milner watched as his Lions battled the Wildcats all evening.  The game was fast paced and kept fans on both sides using only the very edge of their seat.  Defenders Ben Hendricks and Dawson Davis anchored the back line with assistance from Joshua Kim and Cole Salle’ during the first half.  Coach Milner continued to use his midfield rotation with Riley Stachewicz, Cosmin Diaconu, Nick Montgomery and Carlos Lapena.  The front line was manned by John Bednarski, Cole Webster and Tylan Perine.  After a whirlwind first half, the game remained scoreless at halftime.

Coach Milner added Donovan Renn to the lineup on defense in the second half and began moving pieces on the offensive front.  The teams created a few scoring opportunities each, however, neither was able to pull ahead.  With less than 10 minutes to play in the game, Salle’ outraced a Wildcat defender to the ball and cut toward the goal.  With a defender on his inside shoulder he delivered a pinpoint accurate diagonal pass just out of the reach of another Wildcat defender to Webster who ripped a shot past the diving goalkeeper.  The goal lifted the spirits of the players and brought the multitude of Lions fans to their feet.  The Wildcats battled back in the final 10 minutes, but were unable to capitalize on an equalizer.  Goalie Justin Pressor went the distance in goal for the Lions and collected the clean sheet with some solid play.

Following the match, Coach Milner stated, “What a win for the lads!  My heart is still pumping on a night of high emotions, when we needed a big win.  I’m proud to say I was able to be part of it.  The team exhibited grit and determination to pull off a mature performance which led to a victory over our Area foes.”  Milner drew upon his Irish roots and a bit of his new southern charm as he continued to praise the performance.  “Enterprise ain’t no mugs and a very talented team so the win should send ripples around the state.  The team tonight deserves all the plaudits for fighting tooth and nail for one of the sweetest score lines in soccer, 1-0.  Keeping a clean sheet and getting a victory just before the playoffs is huge.  The momentum from this victory will do us good moving forward.  Thank you for the wonderful support.  It made for a great night of soccer along with the JV Boys team pulling off a dramatic equalizer to tie 2-2.  Go Lions!”

This victory is the Lions sixth win in a row.
